I came to Anger Detox a few years after my spouse did the workshop and had a great experience. I hoped to improve our communication. We both learned so much in such a short time. It allowed us to have a mutual language when we are arguing, tools we both can understand and use to resolve conflicts, and personal training that helps me stay calm and have less stress in times of tension. I learned simple solutions to help me control my tone and intense feelings. I recommend the workshop for anyone that likes to improve their relationships with loved ones.

When I initially signed up for "Anger Detox," the people in my life were surprised. To them I did not fit the stereotype of someone who needs an Anger Detox class. I was always calm and appeasing. After an intense meditation retreat; however, I became hyper aware of an extreme amount of anger and resentment that was hiding just below the surface of my smiling facade. I had pretended like I was a happy go lucky person for so long that I had no idea what to do with all of this anger I had uncovered. I did a quick google search for Anger Management programs and when "Anger Detox" appeared I knew that this was the class I needed.
I had a lot of assumptions about dealing with anger. I thought it required yelling, or violent conflict in order to get the things I wanted from people. I never wanted to be a "yeller" and I especially never wanted to hurt anyone, so instead I would never ask for anything and allow my anger to turn into resentment and long-term grudges. Very quickly during the Anger Detox class I was given tools to express my desires in a way that avoids anger altogether. The tools were so simple and easy to use that I couldn't believe I had never thought of these things before. I felt a dramatic shift for the better in my emotional state and in my relationships immediately.
Over the length of the course I was provided with research and reading materials every week that helped to enlighten me even further not just about my anger, but about all of my emotions. Learning that anger was a secondary reaction to an unmet expectation or unpleasant feeling in turn made me so much more aware of the nature of my desires and my inner life. It was like I was meeting myself for the first time.
An equally powerful aspect of the program was the group format. Hearing others express their troubles in dealing with their anger gave me a deeper respect for just how similar all of our human journeys truly are. People from all backgrounds, ethnicities, and age ranges shared their unique stories, and within those individual stories was the universal story of humanity struggling to express their inner world. This element of the class brought a heightened sense of closeness and compassion both towards my classmates and also towards myself. I didn't feel so alone in my struggles with anger anymore. Instead I felt like I was in the great company of all the humans who ever lived. One of the most touching, and unplanned elements of the program is that as the weeks went on and I looked around the zoom classroom at the faces of my classmates their faces all gradually softened and looked genuinely happier. Feeling anger literally "detox" from our lives was a powerful experience.
I know that most of the people searching for a program called "Anger Detox" are those, like myself, who are desperate for help in some way, but I would truly recommend this course to absolutely anyone even if they have never had an "issue" with anger. The information, discussions, and practices included in this course are powerful enough to make anyone a healthier, happier, better functioning human being.
